I love scholarship, but this is a dangerous thing to love. It is dangerous to want impossible things. It is dangerous to attach yourself to cities and institutional structures and archives and ways of living. But what is the alternative?
I want impossible things. I want them so much that bending the fabric of the future with my will seems far more plausible than living without them.
This precarity, I remind myself, is simply what it feels like to live the life in which I am possible.
Everyone whose words I have ever relished wanted, demanded, incited impossible things.
